Crop to 420×525 px

Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about driving licence photo & signature requirements
What is the correct photo size for a driving licence application?
The Parivahan / Sarathi portal generally requires a photo of 420 × 525 pixels (width × height) in portrait orientation, in JPG/JPEG format. The file should be between 10 KB and 20 KB, otherwise the portal often rejects it. Our tool crops to the exact 420:525 ratio and auto-compresses the JPEG into the 10–20 KB range while keeping your face visible.
What size should my signature be?
The signature should be 256 × 64 pixels in landscape orientation, between 10 KB and 20 KB. Sign on plain white paper with black or blue ink and photograph it clearly in good light. Our tool locks the crop ratio to 256:64 and compresses the output into the 10–20 KB range automatically.
Why is the file size limit so small (20 KB)?
The Parivahan portal enforces a much smaller upload limit than most modern websites because its servers store records for millions of applicants. A typical phone photo is 2–5 MB — about 100 times larger than allowed. The tool shrinks the file with smart compression so it fits under 20 KB while staying readable, instead of producing a blurry block of pixels.
Why merge two document images into one PDF?
When you upload address or age proof, the portal usually accepts a single file per document. Since most proofs (Aadhaar, Voter ID, etc.) have two sides, you need to combine them. Our tool crops both images to the same height, merges them side-by-side, and generates one PDF that shows both sides clearly.
Is my photo uploaded to your server? Is it private?
No. Nothing is uploaded anywhere. All cropping, resizing, DPI tagging and PDF generation happen entirely inside your browser using JavaScript. Your photos never leave your device — you can even disconnect from the internet after the page loads and the tool still works.
My file is still above 20 KB. What can I do?
The tool steps the JPEG quality down automatically to fit under 20 KB. If a very busy or high-detail photo still shows a yellow/red chip, try a photo with a plainer background, or re-crop a little tighter around the face. The size chip always shows the exact KB of the file you'll download.
Can I rename the downloaded photo / signature file?
Yes. After cropping, the filename field becomes editable — click it and type any name (e.g. ram_dl_photo.jpeg). The Download button uses that name. By default it saves as dl_photo.jpeg and dl_signature.jpeg.
Which documents are accepted as proof for a driving licence?
For address proof: Aadhaar, Passport, Voter ID, Electricity/Water bill, Rental agreement, or LPG receipt. For age proof: Birth certificate, 10th marksheet, PAN, or Passport. Aadhaar is the most commonly accepted single document. Exact requirements vary by state RTO, so check your state's list on the Parivahan portal.
