Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about compressing a photo to 20KB
Why do forms ask for such a small file size like 20KB?
Government and exam portals process thousands of applications at once, so they cap photo size to keep upload servers and databases light. 20KB is enough for a small, clear ID-style photo without slowing down the system.
How does the tool get my photo under 20KB without making it blurry?
The tool tests a range of JPEG quality levels and picks the highest one that still lands under your target size — so you get the clearest possible image at that size, instead of over-compressing by default.
My photo won't go below 20KB even at the lowest quality. What now?
This usually happens with very large or highly detailed source images. Try cropping tighter to the face first, or reduce the output pixel dimensions slightly — smaller dimensions compress to smaller files at the same quality.
Is my photo uploaded anywhere?
No. Cropping and compression run entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Your photo never touches a server — you could disconnect from the internet after the page loads and the tool still works.
Can I use this for a form that wants a different size, like 50KB?
Yes — choose 10, 20, 30 or 50 KB from the target size options, or adjust the pixel dimensions to match any other portal's requirement.
